Course Description

Provides instruction on effective principles, methods, and techniques for teaching listening, speaking and related skills to learners of English.  You examine an integrated-skills based, student-centered approach that promotes communicative and authentic language teaching. You also experience and analyze activities and techniques that support effective instruction, including activities in:

  • vocabulary
  • pronunciation
  • fluency

After observing a listening/speaking class taught and developing an original lesson plan, you deliver a speaking/listening lesson, following a prescribed format. Finally, you reflect on your teaching and professional growth.  Advanced academic writing skills, or successful completion of Fundamentals of Academic Writing, are recommended.

Prerequisites

Students pursuing a TESOL Certificate must meet program entrance requirements. Advanced academic writing skills are recommended prior to taking this class.
