Course Description

This redesigned AP U.S. Government and Politics course explores the new curriculum which combines disciplinary skills with a deep understanding of political concepts.  The content is aligned with a one-semester introductory college course, prepares students for advanced political science coursework, and helps them become active, informed participants in our constitutional democracy. You will learn how to introduce key political subjects that characterize the constitutional system and political culture of the U.S. today, including:

  • concepts
  • ideas
  • institutions
  • policies
  • interactions
  • roles
  • behaviors

You will also be guided on how to choose the specific historical and contemporary contexts for your students to explore, as they develop related concepts and skills. Grading rubrics and methods for building a successful AP program are presented.

AP Summer Institute spotlights the latest instructional strategies for teaching U.S. Government and Politics. This course will be taught online July 8-11, 2024. Early bird discount cost is $600 (before June 7) and $650 (after June 7). There are 3 units of credit (optional) for an additional $150. Registration closes Friday, June 21. Register via Cvent.
