Course Description

The fundamentals of producing original short videos will be taught with an eye toward using digital storytelling to activate a museum’s collection and educational mission. Museum curators, educators, and collection staff will strengthen their engagement with media literacy, and learn creative and technical skills to apply toward visual communication and video production. Through a series of lectures, hands-on labs, and collaborative workshops, students will acquire the basic skill sets to produce short videos, and will explore specific ways that digital storytelling can transform how their institution communicates with its audience. Whether within the walls of the museum’s installations and education department, or beyond the walls, across the museum’s website and virtual communication, digital storytelling has an essential role to play in how a 21st-century institution communicates its message, and grows its diverse audience.
