Course Description

Students enrolled in this course will learn the basics about simultaneous interpretation. During every class meeting student will rehearse on parallel skills that simultaneous interpreters need. These parallel skills include, speaking, listening, and organizing memory. Students will be given opportunities in class to rationally interpret parts of audios, discuss the difficulties, and provide suggestions. This course also focuses on simultaneous translation during the jury selection process.

Learner Outcomes

  • Students will understand how the simultaneous mode of interpreting is used and rules that apply.
  • Students will be taught strategies that help enhance concentration and focused attention skills.
  • Students will learn about how a case moves through the legal system.
  • Students will learn to interpret in simultaneous mode.
  • Students will become familiar with terminology for witness’s testimony in firearms, fingerprints and toxicologist will be provided.
