Course Description

A study of the craft of writing a novel, including proven techniques for keeping editors and readers interested. Novel writing topics include inventing memorable characters, intricacies of good plotting, choosing an appropriate setting and atmosphere, developing an ear for the right dialogue, creating beginnings that hold the reader's attention and developing cliffhanger endings. Among the publication issues discussed are conducting research, finding a particular audience, selecting an agent and/or publisher and preparing manuscripts for submission.
