Earning the Certificate

To earn this certificate, individuals must complete 26 quarter units and a 400-hour practicum.

Course Format

The following courses are continuous enrollment courses. This means that the courses are open 12 months per year, available to enroll in and begin at any time; however, from the date you enroll, you must complete the work within 8 weeks. Disregard posted course start and end dates for the following four courses. The start date is your enrollment date and the end date is 8 weeks from the start date.

  • Crime Analysis Applications (SOC X415.1)
  • Criminal Investigative Analysis (SOC X415)
  • Introduction to Criminal Intelligence (SOC X415.2)
  • Research Methods and Statistics in Crime Analysis (SOC X415.3)


Upon successful completion of the of the Professional Certificate in Crime and Intelligence Analysis, participants will have met the requirements to receive the Certified Crime Analyst designation from LEIU.

You will receive a certificate from UCR Extension and a certificate from the Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Units (LEIU).

The UCR Extension Professional Certificate, and the LEIU certification are mailed directly to each student.
