Course Description

Social Science encompasses academic disciplines that analyze the interaction of people with a society. Applying social science theory to classroom practice requires instructors to demonstrate the ability to teach state-adopted content standards in History/Social Science while enabling students to learn and use analytic thinking skills aligned with the shift to Common Core State Standards (CCSS). During this course, you will focus on the application of instructional strategies for teaching the social sciences at the middle and high school levels. You will address:

  • organization of courses
  • sources of materials
  • textbooks

You will also cover methods of teaching the social sciences with an emphasis on adapting curriculum and instruction to meet the literacy goals of Common Core.
