Course Description

What is common through much of modern life is the religious dimension, the experience of various forms of faith and practice within the lives of individuals, communities, and societies around the world. In this excursion into world religions, Confucianism, Daoism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and the three major monotheistic faiths, we will explore the grounds of religious authority, and discover how religions intersect with everyday life. The mutual dynamic of  “religious authority” and “everyday life” will lead us to a discussion of commonalities  and differences among religions; how differences of belief generate conflict across faith traditions or between traditions; and how inter-religious dialogue may constructively take place.
