Course Description

This is a high beginning level English class in which you will develop basic reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar skills. You will practice daily tasks such as:

  • describing appearances
  • discussing the past
  • talking about health
  • ordering in restaurants
  • making future plans

Course topics will reflect everyday life and may include clothing styles, people, activities, countries, hometowns, and food. You will learn strategies for reading brief texts, and write sentence-level notes or messages.  You will also develop your communicative skills by working in groups on projects and delivering presentations.

Notes

Students will be taught by a master teacher, and may also be taught by student teachers.  This class is a prerequisite for higher levels.  Students can qualify to receive an award in the Specialized Study Program in English as a Second Language upon successful completion of the ESL Low and High Advanced classes with a "C" average or better.
