Course Description

This is a high intermediate level English class in which you will continue to develop your reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar skills. You will learn strategies to improve communication skills around daily events and worldwide issues. Course topics may include:

  • life events
  • job skills and preferences
  • landmarks and places
  • entertainment
  • non-verbal communication
  • laws and customs
  • problems

You will also learn strategies to increase your control with more difficult grammatical structures, understand more complicated, authentic texts, and write paragraphs on a variety of topics.  

Notes

Students will be taught by a master teacher, and may also be taught by student teachers.  This class is a prerequisite for higher levels.  Students can qualify to receive an award in the Specialized Study Program in English as a Second Language upon successful completion of the ESL Low and High Advanced classes with a "C" average or better.

Prerequisites

Completion of ENGL X 406.10, ESL Low Beginning; ENGL X406.13, ESL HIgh Beginning; or consent of instructor or program coordinator.
