Course Description

Strategy management is the commitments, decisions, and actions required for an organization to achieve competitiveness, and earn above-average performance and returns. The Strategic Management Process begins with an analysis of the external environment and the internal organization to determine the organization’s resources, capabilities, and core competencies. With this information, the organization develops its vision and mission and formulates its strategies. To implement its strategies, the firm takes actions to enact each strategy with the intent of achieving competitiveness and above-average performance and returns. This dynamic Strategic Management Process is enhanced by effective strategic leadership within organizational structures and controls and by maximizing entrepreneurial, international, acquisition, and collaborative opportunities. This module will examine the strategic management model and process which involves strategy analysis, strategy formulation, and strategy implementation.  Also discussed will be:

  • the processes used to manage multinational organizations
  • how to align the basic mission, vision and goals of an organization by analyzing the environment's social, political, technological, economic, and global factors
  • fostering growth through cost leadership, differentiation, pricing, marketing, and other competitive advantage strategies
  • fostering corporate growth through diversification, vertical and horizontal integration, mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, and strategic alliances
  • the relationship between strategy, structure, organizational structure, and controls
  • the role of strategic leadership and entrepreneurship in achieving corporate growth goals
