Course Description

Exploration of human cognition and learning, especially as it relates to adult learning. By examining the historical perspectives on learning and influences of learning theory, you will identify approaches which support their personal teaching philosophy. You will then relate these frameworks to the creation of learning environments, student motivation, classroom management, assessment, and technology to support teaching and learning. Typically, teaching and learning are explored through trial and error and by modeling from our own teachers. In this course, you will approach teaching and learning as a scholarly field of study. Some questions that will drive your inquiry are:

  • How does learning occur?
  • What is the relationship between learning and teaching?
  • What are some influences on this relationship?
  • How is teaching practiced and studied?
