Course Description

A citizen science opportunity to learn about restoration, natural vegetation succession, and monitoring techniques in the Mojave Desert. For this course, we will collect vegetation data on a restoration project of a post-fire landscape in Joshua Tree National Park. Through lecture, field surveys, and discussion, you will:

  • understand desert restoration techniques and field monitoring methods
  • observe post-fire vegetation succession, fertile islands, and nurse plant relationships
  • become familiar with desert vegetation through plant identification
