Course Description

This course introduces you to the basic concepts in the study of American government. Essential elements of the United States Constitution as it was originally formulated, and its meaning as it has developed through amendment and judicial interpretation are covered. The primary objectives will be:

  • the origin and development of the Constitution
  • the Congress
  • the Presidency
  • the Judiciary
  • federalism, civil rights, and legal guarantees

Material presented, plus completion of out-of-class assignments, should prepare the student to pass the examination of the United States Constitution required for a teaching credential in the State of California. The examination is offered at the last class meeting.
