Course Description

This course provides you with the tools necessary to begin the journey into the rewarding and in-demand profession of Legal Interpretation. You learn essential study techniques, as well as the three basic skills of court interpreting:

  • sight translation
  • consecutive interpretation
  • simultaneous interpretation

Class discussions cover important legal concepts surrounding the U.S. court system, including the role of the interpreter, ethics, professional profile, job market, pay scales, professional organizations, the private sector, and preparation to take the state certification exam.
