Course Description

We will continue to look at new set of short stories penned by Boccaccio. By writing The Decameron, a series of hilarious and spicy short stories helped by nobles, monks, thieves, parasites, scheming women and lovers--both faithful and unfaithful. In the Decameron (meaning ten days), Boccaccio not only presents the most colorful tableau of the mores of the Italian middleclass of the 14th century, but also expresses vividly what he considers "his love of life." Despite the worst disasters that took place in Italian history at that time, Boccaccio had the courage to see beauty, humor, goodness, and joy.
