Course Description

This course will introduce you to the foundational concepts related to educating for democracy, and their relationship to the broader aims of education. You will reflect on the health of our democracy, and identify current strengths and weaknesses. You will:

• explore research and literature in the field that demonstrates civic learning’s importance, core elements
• learn about the ways in which civic learning has changed in the digital age
• how civic education must be redesigned to attend to the new opportunities and challenges in this new landscape
• learn about various models and approaches for integrating high-quality civic learning in a variety of educational settings

You will then implement your own lesson or project.
