Course Description

Explores the role of the hospital-based nurse case manager and the nature of the tasks generally performed in this setting. The course provides you with an understanding of initial and concurrent utilization review, including use of criteria, documentation, and communications. Hospital case management issues and concepts being examined include:

critical paths
differentiating case management from care management
handling denials
continuity of care
alternative resources
financial considerations

Students also learn the process of discharge planning, including discharge screening, and assessment skills.
