Course Description

What is the meaning of the term “culture”? What role does it play in our collective and individual behaviors, and how does it affect our value and belief systems? These and other questions will be explored through the lens of cinematography. Viewing and discussing selected films from around the world will allow us to delve deeper into the meaning of culture, and expose what happens when cultures are taken out of context or are experienced differently. We will address cultural conflicts and clashes occurring because of national, religious, societal, and personal differences. Can these cross-cultural clashes lead to wars, individual conflicts and unhappiness? We’ll talk about the role of culture in our daily interactions, behaviors and judgment of other people and events – both major and routine. Aimed at better understanding universal, cultural, and personal behaviors of people from different parts of the globe.
