Course Description

Digital filmmaking is the writing process in action! Critical thinking, technology, interpersonal skills, time and resource management, problem solving, and imagination are all basic survival skills in the 21st century. Every one of those skills are tested when you make a movie. This course explores concepts of fundamental screen grammar in visual storytelling, and how choices by filmmakers can affect a story or drive how the audience feels about a story or character. Media literacy, visual storytelling, discussions, presentations, critical thinking exercises, teamwork, and how these topics relate to the TK-12 Common Core Standards will be presented.

The purpose of this course is to demonstrate to teachers how the process of media production can be used across the entire curriculum and can help to raise the profile of their subject within their schools, and how Media Literacy also teaches young people relevant skills such as creative, critical, and analytical thinking.
