Course Description

What is moral and immoral? Since the times of Plato and Aristotle, humankind has wrestled with this question. Through cinematography, lecture, and discussion, we will examine the dilemma that filmmakers experience when producing a morally ambiguous work of artistic value. Film screenings will include films from different cultures that expose the paradox of movies considered immoral on the surface, along with an in-depth look at various circumstances of morality and immorality in human behaviors. The films chosen will present the works of famous and highly acclaimed directors who had the courage and artistic talent to explore this challenging and controversial subject.
