Course Description

Examine the history and practice of adult learning in today’s world. Discussions include:

  • ages and stages in adult development
  • characteristics of adult learners
  • adult learning/teaching styles
  • establishing coach/learning relationships
  • overcoming barriers to learning
  • increasing adult motivation to learn
  • building problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • promoting self-learning in adults
  • enhancing knowledge through experiential learning
  • dealing with diverse adults

The course will focus on relating the research, theory, and practice of cognition and learning and adult learning to the workplace, with an emphasis on critical thinking and critical perspectives.

  • Develop knowledge of adult learning theories and how the apply to coaching teachers
  • Learn practical strategies and effective instructional techniques for holding the attention of adult learners
