Course Description

Examines central texts by gay and lesbian authors from the nineteenth century to the present. The primary focus is on exploring the ways in which sexual identity affects the writing of literature.

Learner Outcomes

  • Discuss the complex experiences LGBTQ+ individuals often have with their families, cultures, and societies.
  • Examine several earlier LGBTQ+ texts from the eighteenth century to the 1950s, considering how past queer experiences can both diverge from and parallel our own.
  • Analyze texts and the role of movements and migration in queer lives.
