Course Description

Introduction to the differential calculus of functions of one variable for students majoring in Life Sciences.

Learner Outcomes

This course will prepare students to:

  • Find limits
    • Compute finite limits
    • Compute infinite limits 
    • Use the Sandwich Theorem
  • Find derivatives
    • Find derivatives using Power Rule and Basic Rules of Differentiation
    • Find derivatives using product rule
    • Find derivatives using quotient rule
    • Use chain rule correctly
    • Find higher order derivatives
    • Find derivatives of Trigonometric Functions
    • Find derivatives of Exponential Functions
  • Graphing and Asymptotes
    • Monotonicity and Concavity
    • Find Extrema and Inflection Points
    • Use the Mean Value Theorem

Prerequisites

Students must have taken high school mathematics. MATH 005A or MATH 006B
