Course Description

This course begins a sequence of two courses: Conversational Italian, Parts A and B, and covers beginning conversation emphasizing oral skills and comprehension of spoken and written Italian. The purpose of this course is to provide you with a sound basis for communicating effectively and accurately in Italian. “Real-life” activities will expose you to day-to-day contexts likely to be encountered in Italy, thus reinforcing grammatical structures learned in class and increasing functional skills. You will learn:

  • how to greet others and introduce yourself in Italian
  • the Italian alphabet, sounds, and pronunciation
  • how to exchange personal information, as well as ask and answer questions
  • how to describe people and objects

In addition, we will discuss wants, needs, physical states, family, seasons, weather, clothing, sports and leisure-time activities. You will also be introduced to contemporary Italian life and culture.
