Course Description

Ethical rules and guidelines applicable to legal professionals, including the sources of ethical rules and model codes. Hypothetical and actual case studies will focus on common ethical dilemmas, highlighting those areas most affecting the legal professional:

  • unauthorized practice of law
  • client confidentiality
  • conflicts of interest
  • advertising and solicitation
  • fees
  • client funds
  • competence

You will also discuss the role of the legal assistant in the delivery of legal services, and learn to understand the difference between licensing and certification. Also included is an introduction to the rules and model codes of conduct of the ABA, California State Bar, NALA, NFPA, and CAPA.
