Course Description

An overview of domestic relations law, including the Family Law Code. You will examine the laws relating to marriage, marriage dissolution and annulment, separation, and child custody and visitation. Discussions include:

  • marital property rights
  • community and separate property.
  • debts and obligations
  • how property is divided upon marital dissolution.
  • domestic violence
  • court forms used in family law matters
  • enforcement of orders

Includes presentation and study of detailed case histories, and provides you practice with interviews, negotiations, and depositions.

MCLE: 26 hours

Prerequisites

LAW X430, Fundamentals of Law for the Legal Professional, may be taken concurrently.
