Course Description
Establishing a private Educational Therapy practice, and operating it as a successful business, is a challenging process to beginners in the field. You will discuss:
- office procedures
- record keeping
- insurance requirements
- ethical practices
- fee structure
- public relations
- advertising
- time management
- community involvement
You will also be exposed to management skills, such as report writing, parent education, and communication skills.
Learner Outcomes
- Develop a plan to establish and maintain a practice in educational therapy based upon an increased knowledge of initial and on-going procedures including, formulation and utilization of a business plan, identification of the financial and time investments, and determination of the day to day operational requirements.
- Describe the ways in which the client’s family, school, community, and culture impact the development and implementation of psychosocial interventions.
- Analyze clinical case material for techniques that develop trust, maintain confidentiality, and respect family values, beliefs, and the reality of daily routines and expectations.
- Recognize the presence of ethical issues and delineate options for appropriately handling such occurrence.
- Design a practice in educational therapy to best suit personal goals, needs, and personal psychology based on increased awareness of self, other, and the interpersonal space within which the work occurs.
