Course Description

This course examines the educational therapist's role in remediating client learning difficulties and in developing compensatory strategies to use in educational, vocational, or social settings. Topics include techniques designed to target processing and production problems. These involve input, output, issues of distractibility and impulsivity, and organization, especially the effects of the auditory, visual, and visual-motor domains on learning. Participants learn strategies for dealing with attentional, motivational and behavioral difficulties in a variety of settings such as school, work or home. Special situations such as those involving head injuries and neurological conditions are also discussed.
