Course Description

Sight interpretation and translation concepts will be used to assess the ability to comprehend written text in one language and the ability to produce an oral or signed rendition in another language. Sight translation will be implemented as a pedagogical tool to enhance students acquisition of translation and interpretation skills. Students will develop advanced sight translating skills through practice. Emphasis in this course will be placed on the general rules that recommend strict limits on the length and complexity of the documents that interpreters must sight translate. Students in this course will learn about the abilities to; translate a text in the allotted time, deal with unfamiliar words, self-correct, and how to avoid verbal literal translations.

  • Students will learn appropriate sight translation in the court room.
  • The importance of professional sight translation will be discussed in full.
